Hello:
could it be a foreing body???

gastric intussusception

I think this is in the anterior abdomen based on the structures I can see. The round structure appears most likely to be in the lumen of the stomach (pyloric region). This is always hard when I don’t have my hand on the probe. I would look around more to identify more normal structures to help rule out other possibilities and reinforce the location I am suspicious of. Exploratory would be the next step to R/O mass, infection or FB.

Duodenal foreign body. Could it be a fruit? Like a tangerine or lemon?

I've always been curious why potatoes don't cause a distal acoustic shadow like other FB. Is this because the ultrasound waves are able to penetrate through the potato due to high water content? Is this true for other vegetables, like carrots, as well?

Marc-Andre d'Anjou Author

Good question! You are right, the content of these vegetables allow ultrasound to go through without significant attenuation, which explains the lack of shadowing. "Hydrated" FB tend to behave the same way, although exceptions can occur.
