Hello everybody!
After a few very busy months working on the third edition of the Atlas of Small Animal Ultrasonography I finally got a bit of time to select this new Time To Play #33!
As always, go ahead and play the game, share your opinion and in a few days, we’ll provide you with the answer, just on time for Halloween!

Very thickened colon, especially submucosa with a "corrugated" appearance

Subjectively, the shortening of the colon, possibly due to spasm, the clarity of the ascending and transverse segments of the colon was not noted. There is diffuse thickening of the wall of the cecum and colon due to the submucosal layer, there are surface hyperechoic inclusions and wall aeration of the mucous layer. lymph nodes are weakly reactive, moderately hyperechoic fat. As Set of changes characteristic of chronic erosive colitis, high probability of presence of parasitosis, lymphocytic-plasmacytic colitis, neoplasia is not excluded. recommended histological verification, exclude protozoa.

The intestines looked normal till the ileo-caecal junction, then there seemed to be a thickening of the colon wall and loss of the normal layering as you move caudally. The fat in the area around the colon looked a little more hyperechoic too?
Calin Catarig
Thickening of the entire colonic wall . Consistent with colitis. Less likely neoplastic. Colic LN mildly enlarged

Pared del colon engrosadas, linfonodulos visibles. podria trtarse de EII o neoplasia. Espectacular la imagen de la VIC

Good morning !
I observe a thickening of the colon, next to the ileocolic valve, the most altered layer is the submucosa with thickening, increased echogenicity and irregularity. Definitive diagnosis is histological. Regional nodes are reactive hypoechoic.

Hello Dominique:
very beatiful images. For me the main thing is the hiperecogenic infiltration of the colon.
thank you for sharing

The colon is the area of abnormality. The wall has a hyperechoic layer that I think is most consistent with the submucosal layer. It varies in thickness but is much thicker than normal and has an area that has a lot of irregularity with much greater thickness that is suggestive of a mass lesion. Biopsy would be needed and the differential causes could include neoplasia and granuloma. It seems unlikely that this would be IBD unless this is the mucosal layer. No other areas of the GI seem to have significant changes.

The thick irregular submucosal layer of the colon and ileocolic region stands out. The muscularis layer is mildly prominent in some sections but not so much as to declare IBD or SCL.

The thick irregular submucosal layer of the ileo. Could there be a relationship with eosinophilic enteritis?
